Spend a rewarding Saturday at Odd Man Inn Animal Refuge\, connecting with our rescued animal residents (affectionately known as the Sanctuary Babes) and contributing to our mission to inspire compassionate living. This is a rare opportunity to get hands-on with animal care\, learn about sanctuary life\, and enjoy a delicious vegan lunch—all while earning those crucial TN Promise volunteer hours. \nEarn Hours for Your Future\nOdd Man Inn is an approved volunteer site for the TN Promise scholarship program. The hours you earn with us help you meet the important community service requirement for this last-dollar scholarship\, which can cover tuition and fees at Tennessee colleges and technical schools. \nHow to Apply\nApplications for each date open on September 1st and are accepted for one week. With only ten spots per day\, we recommend applying early!

SUMMARY:Remembering Jane Goodall:  Staying in It for the Long Haul
DESCRIPTION:We want to devote our November Bite-Size Book Club session to discussing the work and legacy of Jane Goodall\, who died on October 1st at the age of 91. She was a lifelong advocate for animals and animal rights\, and a naturalist and researcher whose observations of chimpanzees in the wild broke important ground in deepening our collective understanding of animal behavior and capacities. For decades\, she traveled worldwide in support of scientific research\, educational projects for young people\, protection of the natural world\, and animal rights advocacy. \nWe will talk about the just-released Netflix documentary Famous Last Words: Jane Goodall\, an interview with Goodall recorded with the understanding that it would only be released after her death. Our reading for November will be an excerpt from her last book\, The Book of Hope: A Survival Guide for Trying Times\, in which she draws an interesting contrast between “hope” and “optimism.”
