Other Tools to Plan Your Legacy

Beneficiary Designations, Trusts & Other Ways to Give

Including Odd Man Inn in your will isn’t the only way to leave a legacy. You can also name the sanctuary as a beneficiary of certain financial assets or explore other planned giving options.

We hope you explore the options below to see what feels right for you. No matter which path you choose, even a modest gift can help ensure lifelong sanctuary for animals who need us most.

Life Insurance

Your life insurance policy can provide safety and sanctuary for animals long into the future. There are two ways to include Odd Man Inn in your life insurance plans:

Option 1:
Name Odd Man Inn as a Beneficiary

This is the most common and flexible choice. You remain the owner of the policy, and you can:

  • Name Odd Man Inn as the full OR partial beneficiary
  • Change the beneficiary designation at any time
  • Retain full control of the policy during your lifetime

When the time comes, Odd Man Inn receives the death benefit, and your legacy goes to work caring for Sanctuary Babes who need it the most.

Note: This option does not provide a tax deduction at the time of the designation, but it allows you to make a powerful future gift without changing your current finances.

Option 2:
Donate the Policy to Odd Man Inn

In this scenario, you transfer ownership of your life insurance policy directly to Odd Man Inn. We become both the owner and the beneficiary. This option may allow you to:
  • Receive a charitable income tax deduction now, based on the policy’s value
  • Deduct future premium payments if you continue to fund the policy after the transfer
  • Make a long-term impact without using other assets in your estate

Note: This option is a more formal gift and cannot be revoked once the policy is transferred.

No matter which route you choose, your life insurance policy can become a compassionate act of future care—for animals you may never meet, but whose lives you’ll help transform.

Bank, Brokerage, and CD Accounts

You can name Odd Man Inn as the beneficiary of a bank account, certificate of deposit (CD), or brokerage account—often without the need for legal fees or complicated paperwork.

To do this, just ask your financial institution to list Odd Man Inn as a:

  • POD (Payable on Death) beneficiary for bank or CD accounts

  • TOD (Transfer on Death) beneficiary for investment or brokerage accounts. Many mutual funds and annuity contracts may also qualify for transfer-on-death designation, depending on the institution.

This option allows you to retain full control of your assets during your lifetime, while setting up a future gift that will directly support the Sanctuary Babes when the time comes. This is one of the easiest ways to leave a legacy of compassion, and it often takes just a few minutes to set up.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)

If you have a donor-advised fund, you can support Odd Man Inn by:

  • Recommending a grant at any time
  • Naming Odd Man Inn as a full or partial successor beneficiary of the fund

Designating an ultimate beneficiary ensures that the resources you set aside for good will be used exactly as you intended—even after your lifetime. It’s a simple, powerful way to make sure your compassion for animals continues to make an impact for years to come.

Check with your DAF provider for instructions on setting up a charitable beneficiary designation; it’s usually just a quick form.

Property and Non-cash Gifts

Turn what you no longer need into sanctuary for those who need it most.

You can support Odd Man Inn by donating property such as:

  • Real estate
  • Vehicles
  • Valuable art, jewelry, or collectibles

These kinds of gifts may offer significant tax advantages, including:

  • A charitable income tax deduction based on the value of the item
  • The ability to avoid capital gains tax on appreciated assets you would otherwise sell

We review property donations on a case-by-case basis to ensure we can responsibly steward your gift in a way that supports the animals and stays true to our mission.

If you’re considering a non-cash gift, we’d be honored to speak with you about how it could help the Sanctuary Babes.

Charitable Trusts

Charitable trusts allow you to give to Odd Man Inn while also providing benefits to yourself or your loved ones.

  • With a Charitable Remainder Trust, you (or someone you choose) receive income now, and the remainder goes to Odd Man Inn later.
  • With a Charitable Lead Trust, Odd Man Inn receives income for a set time, and the remainder returns to you or your heirs.

These trusts may offer tax advantages and are best set up with the help of a financial advisor or attorney. We’re happy to work with you and your team to help align your legacy with Odd Man Inn’s future.
