Gina was rescued in 2022 from a home that had her penned in a tiny yard full of mud and feces. She stared up at rescuers with eyes that pleaded not to be left behind. While the rescuers were there to help a hoarding case of dogs, they also found three pigs in desperate need of refuge. We named the three little pigs Murphy, Tommy, and Gina.
Gina was a beautiful Oxford Sandy and Black. It’s not a breed we encounter often, and they’re always real beauties. Gina had the face of an angel, but she struggled with her health over the course of her short Sanctuary Babe life here. In summer of 2025, we started noticing a decline in Gina’s appetite. It wasn’t normal for such a young pig, and what we thought would be a quick checkup, turned into a months-long struggle through three different university systems to try and find the problem. Gina had a complication related to a medication she was on while at the hospital, and she was having trouble recovering. After such a long fought battle in the hospital, we made the decision with our vet team to let Gina go. We were no closer to fixing her, and the fight was only getting harder for Gina.
Gina was a proud member of the Cabin House Neighborhood with her brother, Tommy, and her dad, Murphy. They snuggled very regularly in all weather. They swamped side by side. She was friendly and social and gentle, like most every pig we’ve ever met.
Gina lived only three years as an OMI Sanctuary Babe, but we enjoyed every moment we knew her. She is a testimony to the beauty of even the shortest of lives that are lived in the peace and safety of an animal sanctuary.
We miss you, sweet Gigi. We’ll see you on the other side.
