PeggySue was one of our older gals who needed a little extra TLC in the Medical Barnyard. She was initially resistant to the extra help (just like humans). When we established a nice little routine for her, she thrived with that extra bit of ease and comfort.
She was comfortable and safe. She had her individual needs met in spite of the fact that we have such an enormous herd. She had caregivers who knew her. Her preferences were respected. Her retirement was cozy and clean. It’s all the things we hope for as we age…no matter the species!
PeggySue had been determined a poor surgical candidate for a spay because of the extent of her uterine issues in combination with really uncomfortable arthritis. We chose to take her to see our vet friends at the University of Tennessee because her attitude had declined, and we were concerned she was in pain. Sadly, she had uterine cancer that had metastasized to her lungs. There was nothing we could do to fix that for her, so we let her go.
We were lucky to know PeggySue and we will miss her. We’re very proud we were able to meet all her needs near the end of her long life.
