In loving memory of...

Rhett

Rhett, with the cute crooked smile, was a huge Red Wattle. He was one of the 159 pigs surrendered to us when we moved to Tennessee in 2021.

Rhett had been limping for a really long time and we were determined to fix that for him. After a few visits to our vet friends at the University of Tennessee, and a bit of surgical intervention, he was relieved of his chronic discomfort and walked with only a tiny residual limp.

Arthritis is a terrible thing for our pig friends. Rhett struggled with it pretty severely the last few months. We tried all the meds we could to help him, but arthritis wins every time.
Caring for vulnerable animals who were selectively bred for what their bodies can produce means we have a lot of Sanctuary Babes who struggle as they age. Giving Rhett almost two years with a good quality of life may seem like not long enough, and it’s not, but we’re very proud we helped him manage these issues for as long as possible.
Rhett was a beloved member of the Cabin House Neighborhood, and he will be greatly missed by his pig friends and his human caregivers.
