Stilgar came to us from a cruelty case with his friends Chani and Duncan Idaho. He’d been in and out of the hospital so many times since he arrived. Aggressive skin cancer and constant mobility issues have been a lot to manage for him, and we’ve done it to the very maximum the vet world had to offer. Without any further treatment options, we very sadly began struggling to maintain his quality of life. It’s the reality of reaching the limit of technology. Stilgar was lovingly tended by our team every single day—wound care, sunscreen, special meals, meds, laser, treats, special housing accommodations, and constant vigilance. We still always reach the end, however, and we walked his tired body home with the assistance of our very compassionate on-site vet partner. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his trusted caregivers. It’s the best we have to offer.
The first day we meet them, we allow ourselves to fall in love. We know we’re walking most of them home far before any of us will pass, yet we still choose to love them. We know goodbye will always come too soon. We always want more time.
See you on the other side, friend. We miss you terribly.
