Walter was one of the gentlest, most affectionate pigs we’ve ever met. He’d been passed through quite a few homes and rescues before landing with us. He was wonderful and lovable in every way.
Walter had been losing weight and appetite…so we had been tending to him with extra meals and calories. He started having some strange swelling in his jaw, and conventional vet treatment wasn’t working. We moved him “up” a level of care, and he’d been sleeping in a heated space with his lady-friend, NoNo. When he still wasn’t better with extra supportive care, we took him to the University of Tennessee to be evaluated. They found a mass of some sort in his jaw, which had done a lot of damage. It was hard to know what the mass was until we had a sample, but the damage was too extensive for it to be humane for Walter to tolerate any more. He was old…maybe 10 or 12…and it was just too much to ask of him. We let him go peacefully.
Walter was loved more than I can express…he was our friend. We were so honored to be Walter’s people at this older stage in his life. He left a very big hole here at Odd Man Inn. His life truly mattered to all of us.
