Yankee Wilbur was born the runt of a litter all the way back in 2011. Being the runt is what saved his life. The runts are considered unworthy of the effort to get them healthy, and they’re disposed of in a variety of different ways. A kind human stepped in to help him, and she changed the course of his whole life. That’s all it takes…ONE person needs to step in and show compassion, and it starts a chain reaction of goodness. We’ve cared for Yankee since 2021, and we’ve made his life immensely more comfortable in his elder years. We take a great deal of pride in that part of our role as caregivers.
Yankee Wilbur passed peacefully under his favorite awning. He was surrounded by gentle humans who tearfully walked him home with love and compassion and gentleness. He was the alpha male in the Feral Neighborhood and was respected by all. His best friends were Eli, Everett, Jedediah, Ennis, and Harlan. Spending FOURTEEN years in Sanctuary was a beautiful accomplishment for this big man, and we’re grateful for the time we got to know and love him.
See you on the other side, Yankee-sir.
