Fall Series (Ep 2): The Power of Photography

October 21 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm CDT

Categories:

Photography has long served as a bridge between worlds, revealing hidden realities, creating empathy, and inspiring action. In sanctuary and animal rights work, photographers face unique challenges: How do you capture the essence of an animal’s story while respecting their autonomy? How do you create images that advocate without exploiting?

What to Expect

We’ll examine how photographers have used their lens to transform public perception of sanctuary work, and animals in general. Central questions will include: How does photography bridge the gap between human and animal experience? What makes an image advocacy rather than mere documentation? How do sanctuary photographers balance the dignity of their animal subjects with the need to tell compelling stories that drive change?

We’ll explore the ethical considerations photographers face when documenting animal lives, the techniques that might create emotional connection without exploitation, and how visual storytelling can shift hearts and minds in ways that words alone cannot.

The format is discussion-driven, so we’ll follow the conversation wherever it leads us, with plenty of space for your insights about the images and concepts we explore together.
