Rupert was living in an abandoned house beside a two lane road in rural East Tennessee. He had no regular caregivers, and he was sleeping under a carport filled with trash. A passerby noticed him beside the road, and stopped to investigate. When she realized the gravity of his living situation, she started looking for help. Rupert came to Odd Man Inn just in time for winter, where he’s now living in a warm little house with a full belly. When we take in new residents, we provide them with all the essential medical care they need. In Rupert’s case, he needed immediate hoof and tusk care, vaccinations, and deworming medication. He’s a shy little guy, so we take our time with socialization. It happens at a pace that’s comfortable for him. He will be introduced gently to the MedBarn family, where he’ll have his own warm space to sleep until he chooses his new pig partners. Oftentimes, pigs like Rupert take over a year to find friends he can actually snuggle. We allow that to happen as organically as possible for them.
