In loving memory of...

Millie

Millie was a lovely Red Wattle mix with the cutest little mini wattles. She was a very gentle girl. Friendly. Happy. She lived in the Feral Neighborhood with Charity and Joey and Albert and the Fuzzy Ferals.
She went to the hospital for an evaluation because we had noticed she had started skipping meals to lay in the swamp…and that wasn’t normal. They found a very large mass in her belly, which we suspected was from being left unspayed. Sadly, they called from the operating room as soon as they had Millie open. The masses from her uterus were catastrophic…attached and intertwined to most everything. The only humane choice was to euthanize her.

She was not elderly…she was not sick…and she was robbed of quality years with her people because she was not spayed on arrival to sanctuary. It was a very frustrating and sad situation. She should have had another 5 years, at least.

The doctor thanked us profusely on the phone for our “compassion and dedication” to treating the animals properly. It’s a sad ending, but we gave her every opportunity we could.
Millie’s final gift was to donate blood in case we needed it for Baby Miracle, her herd sister, who had also been spayed. It was an honor to know you, Millie. We’ll continue to fight for reproductive healthcare for ALL species in your memory.
