In loving memory of...

Minnesota Wilbur

Leave a Note in Memory of Minnesota Wilbur

When Minnesota Wilbur arrived in Tennessee with us, we were concerned about how lame he was for such a young pig. We thought maybe it was the stress of the trailer ride? Maybe he was just struggling with a new home? Maybe our flooring wasn’t right in his house? We tried a few tricks unsuccessfully, but he was still VERY lame.

We took Wilbur for an evaluation at University of Tennessee, where they treated his pain aggressively, but he still wasn’t right. A CT scan showed the joints in his front legs were gnarled little knots. It appeared his growth plates never fused, and he was in pretty terrible pain when trying to use them. It was on both sides, so we had to assume it was a congenital problem. He had been born with a genetic error of catastrophic consequence.

He wasn’t a candidate for surgery and he couldn’t be on morphine the rest of his life. We eased his pain the only way possible. We and his friends in the Washington/Minnesota Neighborhood will miss him.
