Aberdeen is one of our most easily identifiable “North Carolina Boys.” He has a pretty dark rim across the top of his snout, and one ear has a pattern that looks like fringe. He’s over 700 pounds of giant pink cuteness. Aberdeen lives in the Solsbury Hill neighborhood where he spends most days lounging in his personally made daybed under the trees. His best friends are Ezra and Ezekiel. He’s a gentle soul who gets startled by loud voices or strangers, but once he knows you, he appreciates a hand fed treat and a scritch behind the ears.
The “North Carolina Boys” were a group of very rare survivors from the flooding of Hurricane Florence in 2018. When the Category 4 storm caused torrential rain and flooding, factory farmed pigs were locked in the barns to drown. These boys were swept out of their prisons by the flood waters, and eleven of them were sent to live here in Tennessee. Factory farmed males are typically slaughtered at 250-300 pounds, but our boys have been allowed to grow into their full maturity, which now has them all over 700 pounds. The largest of them is Eli, who is 960.
