In loving memory of...

Baby Miracle

Leave a Note in Memory of Baby Miracle

Baby Miracle was a mature female who lived in the Feral Neighborhood. She was rescued along with her mother, Momma Miracle, and the pair was able to stay together to live out their lives–which is unfortunately a rarity in the world of farmed animals. Baby Miracle always had a smirk of contentment on her face, likely because she enjoyed her leadership position within her family and with her human caregivers.

Baby Miracle was one of the trickiest girls to befriend when we moved the sanctuary to Tennessee. She was opinionated. Sassy. She had no problem using her teeth to get her message across–and we listened! We navigated a lot of different problems for her including a very difficult spay recovery and a painful curvature to her spine. She had been on our radar for quality of life issues for some time.

Most recently, she had been unwilling to get herself up out of bed without a LOT of assistance. We knew the day was coming, but it’s still never easy. Baby Miracle passed with the help of our very compassionate vet team at the University of Tennessee. Huge animals in that degree of discomfort from back pain and arthritis very quickly lose their quality of life, and there was nothing more we could offer her.

Her best friend was Pigeon, who passed away a month before her. Baby Miracle’s other friends were Yankee Wilbur, Eli, Everett, Ennis, Jedediah, and Big Boss Charity herself. To be honest, she was friends with everyone in that community. She didn’t care much for humans, but she loved her pig people.

While we’re always sad to lose one of them, we’re also grateful for the opportunity to have known her and cared for her. Her life mattered to us; not because of how “smart” or “beautiful” she was, but simply because she was a fellow being who was worthy of our acknowledgment and respect.
