In February, we’ll explore a BBC Reader centered on visual art and short literary segments created across time and place by artists and authors who portray animals in their work to raise environmental and ethical questions related to animal rights.

Alongside a range of visual artworks, we’ll read excerpts from older texts, including The Animal’s Lawsuit Against Humanity, a 10th-century Muslim Sufi work from Iraq, as well as short selections from a long poem written just over 1,000 years ago by the Syrian philosopher Abu al-Ala al-Maʿarri, often cited as the earliest known explicitly vegan text.

BBC members are warmly invited to send further suggestions for this session to Sharon at sharon@oddmaninn.org.
