Duncan, along with his brother Edmund, was part of a WELL-LOVED herd in a neighboring state having a very serious medical emergency. He was losing dramatic amounts of weight, and his caregivers reached out for help. We thought we could help. He’s part Lamancha, which is a typically thin breed of “dairy” goat, but he lost weight a little too abruptly as winter turned to spring. He was very thin, and we worked a lot of different angles to figure out the cause. It wasn’t lack of food…it wasn’t poor caregiving…our highest suspicion was parasites, and in the end, we were correct.
Duncan has since recovered from his parasite resistance emergency. He lives with Edmund in a segregated yard, near the goat pasture. They both have stringent dietary requirements and are restricted to dry grass only. They will also require frequent medical monitoring for resurgent parasite resistance for another year. The animal caregivers, along with our veterinary team, will then decide if the boys can join the rest of the herd in the goat pasture. Either way, we’re super grateful to be able to help Duncan and Edmund continue their healing journey and provide them the individualized care they need.
