RC Cola was the most enthusiastic old man you had ever met. He was absolutely tiny, smaller than the crew of potbellies he lived with, but he never let that stop him. He would hobble right up to you and try to stand on his hind legs for a med sammie! He was also a sucker for scritches and would put on a show of grumbling before flopping down for belly rubs. He’d snuggle with anyone, but RC was particularly protective of his partner, Petunia, who’s mostly blind and mostly deaf. This sprightly grandpa never wasted a moment, and watching him live his life was both entertaining and inspiring.
RC Cola was riddled with arthritis since the day we met him. He was a tiny little old man who once slept in a miserable little shanty mostly by himself. He died a beloved member of a herd of pigs and people…with a beautiful new home and a bed of fresh hay. Arthritis is a terrible thing for our pig friends. RC struggled with it pretty severely the last few months. When I showed our docs the list of meds we tried, it was clear to them we’d tried it all. Arthritis wins every time. When we arrived at the hospital, RC Cola enjoyed an Impossible Whopper. He passed peacefully knowing the joy of being hand-fed a veggie burger by his adoring friend.
We were sad to lose him, and we honor him by choosing to celebrate the fact that he lived his life here in peace and safety, with all of his needs met.
