Reggie was a Hampshire mix. He was the cutest color of coffee and cream. He was a massive 850 pounds, and he was a herd alpha; a dominant male who was beloved and respected by all of us in his family. Providing animals with end of life care means constantly assessing quality of life. When we met Reggie in April 2021, his hooves were long like scuba fins. It was a constant battle to help him walk properly on feet that were so misshapen. Despite our best efforts, his mobility and comfort gradually declined over several months. The pain in his feet became increasingly difficult to manage, and though we explored every possible avenue of care, we had to acknowledge when his quality of life was no longer what he deserved.
He passed in his home surrounded by the ones he loved most…Biaggio, Arky, Elton, James Henry, Sneaky Ella, Hillbilly Wilbur, Angie Vee, Plutarch, HDT, Ladyfinger, and Silico. It was a joy to know him and to help him in his last couple of years. See you on the other side, Big Reggie.
