Story was found roaming as a stray after surviving a bear attack in her home. Her mother was sadly killed, and her enclosure was destroyed. Animal control took her to the Oregon State Vet School for immediate medical care, and they found her guardians. Story was only mildly injured, but her family was unable to pay for her medical care. In that case, animal control looks for a rescue to step in and provide some assistance. We accepted Story into our care, and we helped her heal from her injuries. She is now a healthy, happy member of our goat herd.

Animal control offices are often responsible for intake of animals of many different species in the community, but they do not have the facilities or the caregiving experience to take care of all of those species properly. Animal sanctuaries often fill a gap in the community by working with animal control agencies to provide appropriate care and safe homes for farmed animals who are abandoned, injured or seized because of abuse and neglect.
