It’s a joy to know them at every stage of life, but we especially love the old ones. Fergie was cantankerous and saucy. She was smart as a whip. She loved snacks and hated being bossed. She was a noble old cranky-pants, and we all adored her.
Fergie had a badly herniated disc from age related bony changes. We had her on stall rest at the hospital for a week after an MRI showed the severity of the problem. The doc didn’t even want her in the trailer for fear she’d get worse, so she stayed in the hospital. Back surgery is a bad option for a large elderly pig…so we were trying conservative management. She then suddenly lost all function of her back end. It’s the endgame in our world, because we won’t let them suffer.
We eased her across the rainbow bridge with love and compassion. No pain. No fear. We only sent her with the best of wishes for there to be lots of Secret Snacks in her next life.
We love you Fergie McFerguson…see you on the other side, sister.
