In loving memory of...

Reta

Reta was one of the 159 pigs surrendered to Odd Man Inn when we took over the Tennessee property in 2021.  Reta was an older pig who lived on the property with her siblings Rufus, Ruby and Rhonda.

After arriving on the property, we quickly identified Reta needed to see a vet emergently. Reta had a belly full of fluid and cancer with lots of muscle wasting. It was advanced and uncomfortable for her. Reta passed peacefully with the help of our compassionate veterinary team at the University of Tennessee.

Reta was survived by her brother and her sisters. We advocated for her. We helped ease her suffering, and for that, we are proud.

Loss is a painful part of this work, but it’s an absolute honor to meet their very last needs with compassion and kindness. They deserve every single gentle act we can offer them. Using our head, and our hands, and our heart to help make their lives easier is what sanctuary is all about.
