Charlotte, a young black potbelly pig, and her male pig friend were brought to UT’s necropsy lab—the hospital’s morgue—for “disposal.” When necropsy staff realized Charlotte and her friend were alive, they directed the owner to take both pigs to the veterinary hospital, where they were evaluated.
Sadly, Charlotte’s friend was in such serious condition that the veterinary team determined further treatment would not be humane, and he was euthanized. The vet team believed Charlotte could still be helped, so they advocated for her, secured permission for her surrender, and called Odd Man Inn. That is how Charlotte came into our care.
Charlotte is significantly overweight and has mobility issues, but our vet team believes with the proper care, she can live a very full Sanctuary Babe life. Because she had prior care at UT, we will follow her prescribed treatment plan, which will include a managed diet, pain management, and joint injections. She will also need to be spayed when she is healthy enough to do so.
Charlotte is currently receiving treatment at UT and will soon arrive in our quarantine space that is set up and waiting for her!
