Meet Susie-Q!

Susie-Q

Sex: Male

Species:
Breed:
Neighborhood:

We took a call from a man who was looking for someone to take in his “potbelly.” He said she was bought by a friend awhile ago, and the friend changed his mind about her. The guy planned to put her online, and the gentleman calling us stepped in to help. He didn’t want her to get killed, so he had been trying to care for her the best he could. He said she was just too much to manage, and he needed help.

We started giving him additional resources to find a home for an owner surrender of a pet pig, but then he said one thing that seemed odd. He said she was red. We don’t see many red pot-bellied pigs, so we asked him a few more questions for clarity. He said she was just 13 months old and weighed 250 pounds. He sent pictures and we immediately knew she was no potbelly–she was a farmed pig. These are the pigs we exist for!

Susie-Q is safely in quarantine and is enjoying her new personal swamp. Once she gets the Sanctuary Babe Special, including the imperative spay, she will move to GenPop to meet her new pig friends.

June 2026: Recovering from the Spay

Susie-Q is recovering from her all-essential spay and continuing her stay in quarantine.

July 2026: Pathology Results

We got the pathology back on her uterus, and guess what it found? Same things we almost always find—lots of irregularities and polyps. She’s just a baby, and that would have turned into a nightmare for her without a full hysterectomy.

We’ll say it every chance we get: spaying female pigs is basic sanctuary care.

July 2026: Integration begins!

Susie-Q has finished her stint in quarantine and begun integration into the Garden Houses Neighborhood in GenPop. She is now taking carefully supervised walkabouts through the sanctuary. With the herd napping after breakfast and a caregiver beside her, she can explore the sights and smells of her new home without the pressure of mealtime or immediate introductions.
